Old West Movies?

Submitted by Prairie on Mon, 01/21/2008 - 15:40
What are some of the movies you've watched that feature the Old West?
I tend to enjoy movies that feature not only the frontiersman, but also the other cultures. I want to learn about the natives and their reaction to people invading their space. I want to know how it felt to be an Oriental woman who doesn't speak a word of English, but has to get along in this wild world. I wonder about the women who were rancher's wives and daughters, and how they expected to survive. I grew up on House on the Prairie shows, and Clint Eastwood movies. What's your inspiration?

I didn't watch too many of the older western movies. A few Duke movies here and there. Seen a bunch of Clint Eastwood though nothing recently, and since my memory is shot, I don't recall which ones I've seen lol. Of course Tombstone and other popular "modern" westerns. Young Guns will always stay atop my favorites.

I just saw 3:10 To Yuma for the first time over the weekend. That's a great movie. I'm also a big fan of The Good, The Bad, And the Ugly and The Magnificent Seven. I've been meaning to see High Noon when I get the chance.
It's like a fellow I once knew in El Paso. One day, he just took all his clothes off and jumped in a mess of cactus. I asked him that same question, "Why?"

I usually leave my tv on the westerns channel. I'm a huge John Wayne fan but any of those old spaghetti westerns will do. I'm also a huge fan of Louis L'Amour. I just joined his book club a month ago. I just wanted to own the fake leather hard covered books. I'm going to leave them to my son when I die.
