Howdy y 'all. I grew up on old b/w and spagetti westerns. I am very excited about the prospect of a western type mmo. I always loved the stories of the tough women who came out of that time.
Something i thought about that you might want to think about race.
Remember the old west was not just Black and White (pun not intended) but there were also Chinese (played a very important role in the creation of our early rail systems) The native americans and Mexicans. You might want to concider these races and bonuses and or minuses to skills.

Ooo awesome idea Ker-ri. We'd have to be careful of what people might say about why we gave a certain race a bonus to something than others...but different ethnic backgrounds are what make our country as cool as it is.

One of the biggest questions that I get is "Will it be all about cowboys and indians?" and the answer is a resounding "No!" There will be factions in the game, but faction will not be determined by race. The game will include multiple races, however.

Thanks BananaMan! We have some exciting stuff coming in the next few months here. The game engine core is finally stabilizing. So, we should have some eye candy very soon.

as well as the cowboys and Indian's as that's an over simplification you would possibly need to cater for the differing racial characteristics of humanity itself as in people from different parts of the planet have differing looks and diversity in average height weight or body build for instance.

The old west wasn't cut-and-dry. The faction system is going to be a bit more complex than one side vs. another side to reflect that. Different gangs (NPC-controlled, and possibly player-created as well) will have their own factions which you can gain or lose reputation with. You may be on the good side of one faction, hated with another, and completely neutral with a third.
