Prairie's First Blog

First, I apologize if I rant. I'm a writer by heart so I tend to rant quite a bit.
In case you didn't see some of the information before, I thought I'd share a little about who I am, what's my relationship to this project, and why it's so hard to see me right now.
I am a 30ish woman who loves gaming. I've loved gaming since I was a little kid, and have my heart set on doing everything I can to get into this industry, and stay in it. I also believe in quality. A long time ago, I was sent to quality assurance training at one of my former companies sent me to, and ever since I've been hooked into making things better if they need to be.
I was brought up to believe that gaming is a way to keep your mind active via the same method as reading books do. I intend to keep that goal in my head whenever I put content together for you.
Currently I play World of Warcraft, but I tend to switch games fairly often since there's nothing out there I really love playing anymore. I've played almost every commercial game out there, and quite a few of the free to play genres. Now, I want to make a game that I love and that people just WANT to play.
I will be one of the content developers working on Phoenix for you. I put together quests, skill trees and figure out if 100 hit points is too many or too few. I post what I think and feel for Funar, and he makes sure I'm taking the project in the right direction. Eventually those thoughts and ideas will turn into quests, skills and your character.
In that other life that I lead, I'm a Software Developer. I mainly code in php and C#, but I also use SQL a ton. At the moment, I'm working on some fairly big projects at work, and at the same time working on some certification training. The next two weeks I'm probably going to be putting in 50-60 hours a week. I can't wait for this pain in the arse time to be over.
So, be patient with me. I promise you that I will listen to you, and work with you to make the best game possible. I've had content devs that ignore my ideas and beliefs, and I know how it makes you feel. Phoenix is for gamers who love the old west and a class based game.

hello
Must have skimmed right past this. This is the first I've read it......or maybe I was in the middle of it and a darn customer came in.
Started to be a nice read till I got up to World of Warcraft. Skipped right to the end after that lol
Kidding of course :) Had a short stint myself in WoW. Very short though, roughly half an hour and I was already back in EQ2. I may have had a different opinion if I had played WoW first instead, but who knows.....anyways, I'm rambling off topic, and all I really meant to say was Hello...so..........Hello.
LOL!!!!!!!! I'm in World of
LOL!!!!!!!!
I'm in World of Warcraft only for the moment. ;) It's a distraction, and I may even be switching around again - not sure. We've pre-ordered Age of Conan, so I'm more waiting for that.
And hi ;)
I'm still lost in Star Wars
I'm still lost in Star Wars Galaxies. They keep coming out with some nifty stuff so I'll keep paying for it. 3 accounts up and running :)
I'd like to try AoC before I purchase it. I pre-ordered Vanguard and got the shaft on that one, so there will be no more tossing away money on any MMO's that I havn't tried lol.
On a whim, and with a friends suggestion, I picked up EQ2. Took a day to download, but once I was in there, it was really a lot of fun. A whole new experience so to say. I had played SWG in the pre-cu days, but I really never got into the full game. I just enjoyed being a musician and going from place to place providing entertainment, and making some credits. After playing EQ2 for a few months, a friend sent a buddy token for me to try out WoW. So when I started there, and it was the same kill 10 rats here, kill 10 boars there as EQ2, I didn't see a point to continue, and since I had already made a small home in EQ2, I stuck with it.
I was for a really long time,
I was for a really long time, up until about the time they started adding collections. I really disagree with the entire process of collections. Tabula Rasa has a similar system, but it felt like it was in line with the current quest system. SWG just doesn't give you a real reason to go kill "200" of something. I don't know, I just never liked either the collections nor the Heriocs. I think they're taking the cheap way out, and that's why I left.
I really like EQ2. I play it off and on, and I think they have some excellent systems. And you're right, for the most part Eq2 and WoW are fairly similar. I tend to get bored with one MMO fairly quickly, so I'm switching into the different genres regularly.
